Hassiba Benbouali University : Academic and Media Figures Enrich the “Day of Science”

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences hosted a distinguished scientific and cultural event from April 14 to 16, 2026, organized by the Department of Media and Communication Sciences in collaboration with the Scientific Club. Held under the slogan “Day of Science… Science is Life,” the event brought together professors, students, and media professionals in an initiative that combined academic insight with real-world experience.

The event was officially inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Mohammed Jareer, who emphasized in his opening speech the crucial role of knowledge in shaping students’ awareness and strengthening intellectual values. He also called on students to embrace the legacy of commitment and intellectual resistance inspired by national figures. The opening session also featured contributions from Professor Maamar Chaouchou, Head of the Department of Humanities, Dr. Hawas Fatima, head of the Media and Communication branch, and student Jumanah Tahar Mazdak, who leads the Scientific Club. All speakers highlighted the importance of such initiatives in enriching university life and encouraging academic engagement.

During the first day, several academic figures presented their books and shared their experiences in writing and publishing. Among them were Dr. Benazza Ibrahim El Khalil, Professor Bellalia Douma Miloud, and media and communication graduate Riyadh Belaid, who showcased his journey in writing books during and after his studies, offering an inspiring example for students seeking to pursue academic and creative writing.

The second session included further academic contributions from Professor Maamar Chaouchou, Dr. Ayesh Sabah, as well as graduates Boubecha Amira and Belmiloud Aida. Their interventions covered topics related to media, communication, and psychology, creating a rich interdisciplinary exchange that encouraged dialogue and reflection among students.

The second day of the event was marked by the participation of prominent academic and media figures. Guest of honor Professor Ali Kassaïssia, a retired professor from the University of Algiers 3, stressed the importance of adapting to technological developments in the media field, highlighting that the future of communication depends on students’ ability to evolve with global changes. Professor Mohammed Tayeb Ahmed also shared his experience in media practice and academic research, underlining the importance of theoretical training in professional development.

In addition, journalist Mohammed Khedraoui from Algerian Television addressed common professional mistakes in journalism, while journalist Miloud Abbad explained the role and responsibilities of field reporters. Radio journalist Latifa Boubiyadha shared her experience in broadcasting, emphasizing passion as a key factor for success and continuity in the profession.

Beyond the academic sessions, the faculty hosted a book fair in the main hall, featuring national publishing institutions and libraries, alongside student exhibitions in drawing and Arabic calligraphy. These activities added a dynamic cultural dimension to the event and fostered greater student participation.

The event concluded on its third day with a reading competition titled “Read and Rise,” involving students from various disciplines. Participants were evaluated through multiple stages, including reading, summarizing, and presenting books, followed by academic discussions on contemporary topics such as digitalization and electronic libraries. The competition ended with the awarding of certificates and prizes to the winners in a positive and motivating atmosphere.

Overall, the event provided a platform that brought together academic and media expertise, highlighting the importance of bridging university education with professional experience. It reinforced the role of the university as a space for knowledge, creativity, and intellectual development, while encouraging students to pursue excellence in their academic and professional futures.
